Weekly tea party

Special Event

24th - Nijo Castle and Yu-zen dyeing(友禅染)
We go watch Nijo Castle and experience Yu-zen dyeing at SENSHOKU KOBO.
 Yu-zen dyeing is a sort of traditional dyeing in Japan. We can make various stuffs. For more information, please look at the image right.

Activities in July

Weekly tea party:

1st (Thu) - Tanabata festival celebration using Tanzaku (rectangular piece of paper)
Let's write down your wishes on Tanzaku and hang it on plants in ki-zu-na

8th (Thu) - Weekly tea party
Your Tanzaku will be kept until the end of this tea party

15th (Thu) - The last tea party of the semester
For those who participated in the trip to Shiga: Please drop by ki-zu-na to get your pottery. If you cannot make it please drop a line.

18th-19th. June. 2010 Trip to Shiga!!

The two-day excursion was made according to the plan despite the bad weather on the first day.
Many got their shoes wet but seem to have enjoyed the BBQ in the rain.
On Day 2, the sky cleared up and we visited lots of places, did activities and drank free beer :)

Huge thanks to those who joined the trip, and for those who missed it, please join other events we are holding the coming month. Further information is to be announced on this blog and facebook.

Trip to Shiga :)!

Hi, this is iAT!
Since many people seemed to have enjoyed our last trip (to Wakayama), we would love to plan another trip!
Although the destination is very close to Kyoto, it would be cheaper than travelling alone . More importantly it would be a great opportunity to create memories together.
Sooo.....join us :)!!!

Here is the details decided:
Destination: Shiga prefecture


HIGHLIGHTS:
● Ishiyama-dera(石山寺)-An old temple in Otsu-city well known as the place where Murasaki Shikibu, a very famous writer in Heian era started writing The Tale of Genji.

● Hikone Castle(彦根城)-One of the few castles designated as a national treasure. In the beginning of Meiji era, many castles were scheduled to be dismantled but Hikone castle remained intact. Now it is designated as one of the National Treasures of Japan.

● Shigaraki ware (pottery) experience ― Shigaraki ware is a kind of pottery created in one of the Six Well-known Kilns in Japan.

● BBQ - our dinner will be BBQ! Let's enjoy ;)

● Fireworks together :D

● Glass work museums (A little town consists of many glass work exhibitions)

● Visiting KIRIN beer factory... we can learn how beer is brewed! We will also get to taste them :)

● Biwa Lake Museum - A museum which exhibits the history and the background information of the Lake Biwa.There are interesting exhibitions and a small aquarium.

● MORE INVALUABLE MEMORIES... you can create your own memories with Japanese/international friends and through special experiences!!




COST: 13,000 yen
-> Covers transportation, accommodation, entrance fees, dinner and breakfast



APPLICATION:
Please come to KIZUNA on
May 20th and 21th during lunch time or the tea party (20th ) with money for the application.


●Limit to the first 50 people. (25 Japanese, 25 international students)


●CANCELLATION FEE:
10 days before: half the fee (6,500yen)
3 days before: all of the fee (13,000 yen)

10th. April. 2010 - Hanami :) !!

We held a Hanami party in Maruyama Park on the 10th of April. We had approximately 40 people at the party. We appreciated the cherry blossoms with some foods and drinks! Huge thanks to those who came!





17th. April. 2010 - Hiking ♪♫

Going on a hike in the sun enjoying cherry blossoms really gives you a good feeling... We had a hike from the clock tower of Kyoto university to Nanzen temple through Philosopher's path :)



25th. April. 2010 - Short excursion to Kiyomizu Temple

Kiyomizu temple is one of the must-sees in Kyoto. We had a short excursion from Yasaka shrine to Kiyomizu temple this day. We enjoyed stopping by at some small shops on the way there. Look at their huge smiles :)
